The World Health Organization said Friday it is sending experts to support health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in investigating an as-yet undiagnosed disease in a remote area of the country.

WHO experts are heading to Panzi, a town in the southwestern province of Kwango, where they will deliver essential medicines and diagnostic kits to help analyze the cause of the disease, which local authorities say killed 143 people in November.

Laboratory tests are being carried out to determine the cause, the WHO said, adding that it would share more information as soon as it is available.
